Do you know what geocaching is ? No? Well even if you do know all about this wonderful pass time, please read on.
Geocaching is an international treasure hunt using mapping and GPS technology to hide and seek items. These items are known as “caches” and comprise anything from a large box all the way down to a nano container about the size of the end of your little finger.
Caches can be found on the website www.geocaching.com and the details can be downloaded onto GPS units, smart phones with the geocaching app or the details can simply be printed off and the caches can be found with the help of a map and compass.
Caches contain a log book and often various small items that are left by previous visitors. Also to be found are “trackables.” These are objects that move from cache to cache and have identifiable codes that are logged onto the geocaching website to track their movements around the globe.
There are many geocaches in the Glenlivet area including our very own one called “Minmore Mystery.”
Geocaching is a great way to learn how to use a GPS unit, explore the countryside and keep the kids interested at the same time!
If you are visiting, have a look at www.geocaching.com and give it a go. If nothing else, you are sure of a good walk and of seeing new places.
